Covenant Presbyterian Church is an Old Church
With a New and Expanding Mission

Covenant has requested to be declared a "Church Plant Congregation" by the Potomac Presbytery, which provides oversight and leadership over the Pastor and congregation.  The reason for this is to acknowledge a transformative change to the church's mission and changes to the demographics of church that have taken place over a period of time.  Four years ago when Covenant began to extend our ministry to the homeless community in the Laurel area many of the mainstream of the congregation who had attended for years began to feel uncomfortable with the increasing participation of the homeless in the church.  Over a period of years many of these church members began attending elsewhere. Meanwhile, God began to bring a others who felt that the outreach to the homeless was a vibrant ministry that provided unique opportunities for service, as well as unique challenges both financially and spiritually.  Local congregations in the area have responded generously to team with Covenant to support our ministry to the homeless. This has provided outreach and opportunities that are enriching the Body of Christ and the local community.  Today, we are actively seeking men and women of God to serve as church builders by attending Covenant and providing mentorship and leadership over the men and women who despite fast failures, are seeking to rebuild their lives. We've been blessed to see homeless men and women overcome challenges such as addiction, restore broken family relationships, and learn life skills that have enabled them to transition to a productive lifestyle. If you are looking for the opportunity to both serve and grow in your faith, you should visit.  Perhaps God is calling you to be a missionary in the Laurel area at Covenant PCA Church, in Burtonsville.

Why We Worship Here

We are worshipping here because our lives have been transformed forever by the gospel of Jesus Christ. God is constantly at work in those who believe. He changes lives. He heals hearts. He draws near to us. He puts us into community with others who are also being changed. And then he sends us out to bring in others, so that they can experience his goodness, too. This is God's GRACE, and at Covenant we cannot get enough of it. Together, we pursue opportunities to:

  • See God's grace as we worship together
  • Savor God's grace in our everyday lives
  • Spread God's grace to the people around us

Every day presents a new opportunity to grow and experience God's wonderful grace in action. To find out more, click on the links above. Or if you're eager to learn more about God's amazing grace immediately, call us at (301)-549-4860.  You can see our statement of faith by clicking here.

Who We Are

Covenant has been a part of the Burtonsville community since 1968. We’re a diverse body of believers who are committed to following Jesus Christ, and to the teachings of the Bible. Our commitment to following Jesus and his teaching leads us into places where others might not go—into local prisons to teach prisoners, into the streets to help the homeless, into our local communities to assist single parents and others in need of God’s grace. Our commitment also leads us to care for each other. Every day of the week, the Covenant family is caring for members in need, providing Christian friendship, and praying for each other. We are ordinary people, redeemed sinners, working together to serve our Lord. Through Bible studies, small groups, and children and student ministry programs, our members are part of each other’s lives

Pastor Jeremy Tuinstra

"We are delighted to welcome visitors and would love for you to make us your church home! We are a church with a vision for transforming our community, located in the Saddle Creek neighborhood in Burtonsville, Maryland. Take a look at an article featuring our work with drug and alcohol addicted homeless people living in nearby Laurel. We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), and a member of the Potomac Presbytery. You can see more information about what we believe by viewing our Statement of Faith.

You will be challenged to step out of your comfort zone and live the radical life that Jesus calls us to through His amazing Gospel.  We are all called to a new life where God's priorities are to rule over our hearts. He desires to have the first place in our thoughts, our actions, and the way we live our lives!
